Languages and literacies in the content areas are important educational topics. Knowing about them will help you teach your students to understand and engage in the academic subjects that they are learning. Seek awareness of the prior knowledge that students have as they enter your classroom. Start there and engage your students more deeply in the academic disciplines through disciplinary literacy. K.E.
